Remington aka Remi is has recovered from his injury 100%. I wanted everyone who made this possible to know that he's a super, sweet, loving, intelligent boy that's just happy to be alive. As you can see from the pictures, he's constantly smiling and is eager to please anyway he can. He runs, turns on a dime and plays just like all the other dogs, you'd never know he had the injury. He's a perfect gentlemen, completely housebroken, doesn't chew, scratch, dig or do anything destructive. His favorite thing besides car rides and playing in the surf on the beach is to get his tummy rubbed. He plays well with other dogs and enjoys meeting new people. He's lived with cats and as long as the cat is dog savvy, he does fine. He is a dominate male and would do best living with a female or mellow male dog. He's just a great guy, warm, gentle, calm, I just can't say enough about him. With a tear, I must announce he's ready for his new home. If you, or anyone you know, is interested in meeting Remi please give me a call at (831) 659-4853. Thanks for your help and support in bringing Remi back to health.

Time Around Aussie Rescue, Inc. (STAAR) is a nationwide non-profit
organization located in the US and Canada dedicated to the rescue of
homeless Australian Shepherds and placing them into loving, caring and
permanent homes. We rescue only purebred Aussies, with good temperaments
for family living. We do not place dogs for breeding purposes whatsoever,
nor for any type of guard duty. Our program dogs will only be placed into
carefully screened homes and approved service careers using a uniform set
of rules and procedures. Second Time Around Aussie Rescue, Inc. is also
dedicated to educating the public and all Aussie owners of the unique
temperament, proper placement and proper, ethical breeding practices of
the versatile Australian Shepherd. Our goal is to achieve the day that
rescue of the Australian Shepherd is no longer needed.
Remington aka Remi was rescued out of a Northern California shelter that was going to euthanize him due a leg injury of "unknown" origin. He received very little care while at the shelter. He became available only to rescue groups and for 1 day only. The limited information that I received was that he was brought to the shelter by a kind person who saw that he was injured. Remi passed STAAR's temperament test and I felt he would make an excellent addition to someone's family. I took him to my vet for x-rays and at that time we saw the bullet, bone fragments and the damage to his leg. It would take a skilled orthopedic surgeon to repair the leg. The prognosis for complete recovery is good and after weighing all the alternatives including amputation, I felt he deserved the chance at a normal life. This sweet guy knows basic commands, is housebroken, and is always offering kisses then flips on his back for a belly rub. He met a 7 year old boy and just about wiggled himself silly trying to love on this boy and was very gentle with him. I'm guessing he's someone's pet that just got lost and I'm thankful for the wonderful donors out there who hope that if their dog ever got lost, that they would find the same love and care that Remi's received. Three other orthopedic surgeons and a teaching hospital were contacted for rate quotes. All came in just about the same at just over $3,000 (everything's expensive in California). Remi's surgery was on Thursday March 4th, which was the soonest anyone could do it. Remi, STAAR and I want to thank everyone for their generous donations. I will post when we've received enough donations to cover his surgery. I will keep everyone informed of his progress. He will be available for adoption after he has completely recovered.
